Mitch Joel on the #LinkedInChat

If you know me at all, you know I am a big fan of Mitch Joel!  His "6 Pixels of Separation" was one of the first social media books I read.  And now his new book, "CTRL, ALT, DELETE" is out and available.  Its a must read.

Well this is a real treat because on Tuesday, June 18th we will have Mitch Joel with us on the #LinkedInChat. When Google wanted to explain digital marketing to the top brands in the world, they brought Mitch to the Googleplex in Mountain View, California. Marketing Magazine dubbed him the "Rock Star of Digital Marketing" and called him, "one of North America's leading digital visionaries."

Mitch Joel is President of Twist Image - one of the largest independent Digital Marketing agencies in North America (although he prefers the title, Media Hacker). In 2008, Mitch was named to the Top 40 under 40 in Canada. Back in 2006 he was named one of the most influential authorities on blog marketing in the world. He has been called a marketing and communications visionary, interactive expert and community leader. He is also a blogger (, podcaster, passionate entrepreneur and speaker who connects with people worldwide by sharing his marketing and innovation insights on the state of business.

Mitch speaks frequently to diverse groups like Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Nestle, Procter and Gamble, Unilever and has shared the stage with former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, Sir Richard Branson, Malcolm Gladwell, Jack Welch, Anthony Robbins, Tom Peters and Dr. Phil. As a professional speaker, Joel has delighted audiences all over the world by delivering real content in an entertaining and customized way. As a professional speaker, Mitch is represented exclusively by Greater Talent Network in the U.S. and by Speaker's Spotlight in Canada.

Mitch is frequently called upon to be a subject matter expert for, Forbes, BusinessWeek, Fast Company, Marketing Magazine, Profit, Strategy and many other media outlets. He is a regular columnist for the Harvard Business Review, The Huffington Post and other magazines and newspapers. His first book, Six Pixels of Separation (published by Grand Central Publishing - Hachette Book Group), named after his successful Blog and Podcast is a business and marketing bestseller. His latest book, CTRL ALT Delete, (also published by Grand Central Publishing) was released in May 2013 and can be found at

So yeah- we are VERY lucky to have him on our LinkedInChat!

I have been a giant fan of @MitchJoel since reading (OK – listening) to his book 6 Pixels of Separation in 2008.

Even WAY back then I saw that this man (@MitchJoel) is a futurist – but that the future is here and he sees it.

If you own your own business, or are in Marketing, Sales or Development – you MUST download (or buy) his book right now!

CRTL ALT Delete by @MitchJoel is easily as powerful and insightful as 6 Pixels.  A must read for all my clients!

Welcome to the amazing (and ubiquitous) @MitchJoel.

Spoiler Alert – we’ll be talking about a lot more than #LinkedIn tonight,  but I’ll try and pull in some LinkedIn-y content too J

@MitchJoel – for those who have been living in their caves with no internet or electricity – can you tell us who you are?

@MitchJoel Ctrl Alt Delete is one of my favorite titles ever. What needs to be rebooted?

6 Pixels of Separation was Game Changing – why did you write CTRL ALT Delete just 5 years later? How much has changed?

@MitchJoel I have so many questions and I haven’t even started yet…– will you come back???

@MitchJoel – what is the ultimate question for your (anyone’s) business? And Why?  Take as many tweets as you need!

@MitchJoel You made some brilliant observations about riding on the backs of giants – It’s a good thing, right?

@MitchJoel – What do you mean by media purgatory.  Sounds scary (where is Dante?) is it?

LinkedIn has been a pretty passive media platform until recently  - they are doing much more to encourage active engagement now.

@MitchJoel What’s the difference between active and passive media?

LinkedIn used to only be a forum for passive visibility and blasting updates,  Its more about touchin your audience now.

@MitchJoel – can you go a bit deeper on Blasting VS Touching (vs active vs passive)

Thanks for the Sheldon reference @MitchJoel – what’s the dif between Linear VS Circular data & why should we care?

@MitchJoel – Loved how you said nothing is free – they are getting your money or your data or both.

LinkedIn is one of the few platforms with 3 tiers of monetization and/or paying with your data.

It cracks me up when folks complain about paying for LinkedIn – you remember the price of business tools in the past, right?

@MitchJoel – should we give up on the idea of security these days?

@MitchJoel – LinkedIn is putting a lot of money into its mobile apps.  Why is mobile so important?

BTW – everyone should read Sherry Turkle’s “Alone Together” (I just bought it)

@MitchJoel – What are your thoughts about digital clout (and @Klout)

OK – I had too many questions and we are only through ½ the book… let’s skip to the end…

@MitchJoel What is this Squiggly of which you speak?

@MitchJoel What are some ways to make ourselves indespensible?

LOL @MitchJoel – how are people being “Social Media Jerks”? (Don’t so this on LinkedIn!)

@MitchJoel How is CRTL ALT Delete more about life and less about social media?  How are we our own Start-up?

@MitchJoel What’s next for media (I just had to ask – hehe)
