Who's viewed my profile is one of my favorite LinkedIn features because it lets you quickly track profile views, ensure you're reaching the right audience, and quickly initiate a conversation with viewers.

So let’s take a look at the New Who’s Viewed:
Where to find it
How to use it
And what it might mean to you and your business.

More specifically, let’s look at how to:

  • Stay top of mind with existing connections
  • Invite new folks to connect
  • See how people are finding you
  • Measure your profile’s effectiveness in attracting LinkedIn members from the right industries, geographic regions, and companies
  • Sort and reach out or connect to your “viewers” by industry, geographic region, and company

Where to Find It:

First of all, to find the new Who’s Viewed feature you need only scroll half way down on your home page, and you’ll see it off on the right. Just click on the blue Who’s Viewed my Profile Link to see the last 5 people who have viewed your profile with the free account, or everyone who has viewed your profile with the basic premium account.

Sorting “Viewers”

Once there, you have the ability to sort your “viewers” by full profile, semi anonymous or fully anonymous.

I usually just check off full view – but once in awhile there is a partial view that interests me – and I can search who they might be right from this screen.

Now that you know hoe to sort your Viewers, let’s talk about the different ways you can interact with them.

Sending Messages:

From this screen I can also send a message directly to anyone who has viewed my profile who is a first level connection, and invite anyone who has viewed my profile but is not a first level connection to connect.

Messages are a quick and easy way to stay top of mind with your connections. Even a brief “I noticed you viewed my profile, how the heck have you been?” might start a conversation that can lead to business.

Inviting People to Connect:

Invitations are much easier through who’s viewed as well, since you don’t have to jump through LinkedIn’s usual “connection” hoops. Just click on the invite button and customize your 300 character invitation. It might read something like this: “Thanks so much for viewing my profile. I see you (live here, do this). Would you like to connect?”

A friend of mine uses this invitation to great success: “Thanks for viewing my profile. I noticed we are not yet connected! Let’s rectify this - click on accept below.”

If you have the paid account, you can not only see where and how people found you, but also sort and communicate with them according to how they found you.

Benefits of a Premium Account

As mentioned earlier, I recommend all businesses spring for the $19/month Premium account -- it's especially useful for the expanded Who's Viewed Your Profile feature. With is you can see not only everyone who has viewed your profile, but how they found you (Google, your website, LinkedIn) what keywords they used to search for you (and where,) what industries most often view your profile and even who at difference companies viewed your profile. This will not only show you if your profile is attracting the right people with the right keywords, but might lead you right to a company that is looking to hire someone like you. If five people from the same company viewed your profile, there might be a reason for that!

So being able to divide your viewers by industry means you can invite them to connect and reference the industry – or geography – or even the company they work for.

If you divide your viewers by company, you can easily send a message to your connections from that company and stay top of mind with them.

And this new user interface makes it easy.

Wrapping Up:

So when you look at the latest Who’s Viewed (by clicking on the link on your home page) you have the opportunity to:

  • Stay top of mind with existing connections
  • Invite new folks to connect
  • See how people are finding you
  • Measure your profile’s effectiveness in attracting LinkedIn members from the right industries, geographic regions, and companies
  • Sort and reach out or connect to your “viewers” by industry, geographic region, and company

So that’s the newest version of “Who’s Viewed Your Profile”. Go ahead and check it out, and start engaging with and building your network today!
