3 LinkedIn Myths that are Affecting Your Business Success

If I build it, they will come.

Even if you have an “All Star” Profile on LinkedIn, it does not necessarily mean that you will convert profile views into conversations. Not only does your profile need to be focused on your key markets, (and their needs,

fears and desires,) but you have to make it easy for your high quality leads to contact (not just connect) with you.

LinkedIn Strategy 1:

Put your phone number and/or email on your background image. Use a Google Voice number and an email address unique to LinkedIn so that you can easily track where your prospects are coming from.LinkedIn Strategy 2:

Use a calendar tool like TimeTrade or Calendly.com to create a unique calendar link in your Summary section and websites section that your LinkedIn prospects can use to book time with you. A lot of the folks who find your profile know they need you, but they don’t necessarily need you right that second. Make it easy for them to book some time with you in the near future – on their timetable.

My prospects don’t use LinkedIn.

Yes they do. Maybe not each and every one of your prospects on the planet, but enough of high qualityleads use LinkedIn to make it a viable tool for you. If you are not finding your ideal prospects on LinkedIn, it’s probably because you aren’t looking in the right places or using the right tools.

LinkedIn Strategy 1:

Make sure to use LinkedIn’s Advanced Search to find exactly the right leads. If you are not getting enough results, use the Boolean modifier “OR” to include more search terms: “CEO OR founder OR owner OR partner.” If you are getting too many unqualified results, use AND and NOT to refine your search: “CEO AND Medical NOT consultant.”

LinkedIn Strategy 2:

Save your searches! You can save up to three searches on LinkedIn with the free account. Once you have saved a search, LinkedIn will send you new prospects who fall into that search algorithm every week! The all you have to do is follow up with them!

Myth 3:

I don’t have enough connections on LinkedIn to make it worth my time. And most of them are spammers anyway, or at least not high-quality leads.

Yup. There are Spammers on LinkedIn. But there are also some really quality people you should be connecting and engaging with! LinkedIn is not necessarily a numbers game. You don’t necessarily want to be a connections hoarder (otherwise known as a LION)… linking to as many people as you can, and then never seeing them again as they wither and die under the weight of all your other contacts. I guarantee you, with a little effort and a few strategies in hand, you can find and nurture enough prospects on LinkedIn to really build your business

LinkedIn Strategy 1:

Organize your Connections! LinkedIn (at this time) still has the ability to “tag” your 1st level connections. That allows you to organize them in such a way that makes sense to you. Once they are organized, you can put a system in place (I use LinMailPro) to communicate with them on a regular basis

LinkedIn Strategy 2:

Build the “trust factor” with content marketing. Bob Burg says, “People do business with people they know, like and trust.” If you disseminate the right kind of content on a consistent basis, it WILL increase the KLT (know, like and trust” factor. You will build “personal brand awareness” by sharing updates daily, writing Posts consistently, and sending regular private messages to your connections.

What This Means To You

You really can have extraordinary success on LinkedIn, and it doesn’t have to cost you thousands of dollars or thousands of hours.

As long as you:

  • Know what it is that you do (or offer,)
  • Are very clear on your audience and how you serve them
  • Are actually good at what you do…

You will achieve success in building your business with LinkedIn!

You just need to know what to do, how to do it and when to do it.

Once you get the techniques and timing down, and take consistent action on a regular basis, you absolutely start generating, communicating with and closing High Quality Leads and winning more business with LinkedIn!
