What is LinkedIn Tagging? LinkedIn Tagging is a way for you to segment and organize your connections on LinkedIn.It is similar to Facebook and Twitter Lists (except your connections cant see how you tagged them.) And for a short while longer, will be available to all users.(Rumor has it that the new interface gets rid of tagging with the free account L) Why Tagging is Important The reason tagging is so important is because it allows you to keep in touch and share relevant information with target groups of individuals.Lets say you write a new Publisher Post on Best Networking Events for Lawyers in NYC.Obviously you would not message your whole network with that post, but you might let your top 22 NYC Lawyer Prospects know about the post on LinkedIn!Without tagging it would be... I often get asked how it was that I became the LinkedIn Expert. The simple answer is I got the name first. I was also very lucky to get into a new industry early on (meaning the URLs and the handle LinkedIn Expert hadnt been taken yet.) And I was fortunate to create a bit of a name for myself since there really weren't too many other people doing what I was at the time. (Especially as a female in what was then a male dominated world.) But really, becoming an expert in my industry, besides luck and timing, was a combination of diligence, work, and positioning. Not everyone needs to be a LinkedIn Expert. But you can be an expert in your field on LinkedIn! Here are some steps to take. KISS Keywords First of all, know what people are looking for. I tried on all kinds of titles when I... Read More

Even though I'm on vacation, I wanted you to know about the new Publisher Interface. YouTube Video: Check out the video here: Why Isnt It Working? First of all, know that Publisher doesn't seem to be working on Chrome. At least, it wasn't working on my Chrome. Publisher was there, but none of these features showed up. See image below. Also the main image wouldn't load. But have no fear! Just go to a different browser. It worked for me in Firefox and Safari (although another client had issues with Firefox.) What Publisher Looks Like When It Does Work! When you go to your homepage and click on "Write an article," LinkedIn will take you to the new LinkedIn Publisher. Add your main visual right up top. (Im not sure, but I think the 700 x 400... Read More

Beta Baby! First of all just wanted to give a huge shout out to Dave Byrnes , he's the one who turned me on to the new LinkedIn Company Page layout. They are still in beta testing - in fact, I think the only company to have one of the new company pages is LinkedIn! Check out the video below or click here: https://youtu.be/L2zf0icb1wI Comparing the Old Page Just to compare, the old LinkedIn company page, (what we have right now) has a: 600 by 220 header image Company description Updates How you're connected on the right-hand side of the page Your showcase pages on the right Homepage tab at the top Career Page tab at the top Notifications at the top Analytics at the top And if you have a paid account, your premium... Its important to remember that your LinkedIn profile is one of the most important pieces of your online business presence and branding - so you need to make sure that your profile's branding is aligned with your website, social media and other digital platforms. Visuals Professional Headline You have a great opportunity to create a branded image on your personal profile and on your Company page with LinkedIn'sbackground image. The Personal Profile background image is 1400 x 425 pixels and your Company Page Background image is 660 x 220. Unfortunately, you can't use the same image for both - although they can (and should) resemble each other. The Profile's image is more of an inverse U shape andthe Company page is a rectangle. Like this: Personal Profile Upload a... Read More

LinkedIn has a new Video Feature How cool is that? Well maybe not as cool as we thought. But let me back up I spent last week hanging out with my friend Sue B. Zimmerman , (otherwise known as The Instagram Expert .) That's when Instagram stories came out. Well what do you know! At the same time LinkedIn comes out with a video feature . How cool is that? It's LinkedIn, so . New Influencer QA Video Feature I thought, "Oh this is awesome, there's going to be some kind of live chat feature, maybe they're going to infuse Skype-like capabilities into LinkedIn. Worst case scenario there will be some designated video page and we can all start uploading videos now." Not so much. LinkedIn's big offer? Thirty second videos, coming to you from the 500 exclusive... Read More

Recently, Hilda (one of my tribe) asked, "How do you save a search exactly?" I realized I didn't have a very good description anywhere on YouTube or on my blog. However, before we talk about how to save a search, let's talk about why you want to save a search. The reason why is because when you save a search on LinkedIn, LinkedIn will actually send you a weekly, updated list of new people who fall into that particular search algorithm. If you are searching for prospects, LinkedIns Saves Search will send you leads. Whether you're looking for donors for your non-profit, or you're looking for candidates for your business, or you're looking for new clients because you're a consultant or a contractor, you work in sales and marketing, or you're looking for... I'm always getting asked that question! And the answer is.. it depends! True Story: LinkedIn really pissed me off back in November (happy to tell you the whole story privately sometime.) I decided to "show them" and I canceled my Premium account. Because my $60 investment was really going to make or break LinkedIn :) I lasted about 2 weeks on free until I had to upgrade again. But that's me. Obviously, I use LinkedIn a lot. But how about you? Should you upgrade? What I tell my clients is, "Use LinkedIn's free offer until you hit the wall." When you can't do what you want to do on LinkedIn, invest in an upgrade. (Personally, I prefer Business Plus over Sales Nav.) If you have been wondering if LinkedIn Premium is for you, read the article below that I wrote for the... Read More
