By Richard McMunn The emergence of social networking sites as arguably the primary method of communication has caused countless changes to the way people interact. LinkedIn is not a social network as such, this mainly down to its much more astutely business appeal. Nevertheless it did pioneer many of the now commonplace functionalities of other networking sites and so making the most of the job seeker benefits it offers, lies in capitalizing on what is now regarded as the social networking model of growth. Getting Started In spite of the comparisons that can be made between LinkedIn and social networks such as Facebook, it is important to remember that this is a professional site and as such it should be treated accordingly. The utmost importance to attention to... Read More

Where did vCards and Network Statistics Go? Here are just a few of the areas affected by the new UI - and people are not happy: vCards Network Statistics Colleagues and Classmates New to LinkedIn Messages, Introductions and InMails Website Info Recommendations As you might have read in my last post , despite LinkedIn’s newer “cleaner” look, the new UI is not getting rave reviews. Amongst the biggest complaints has been the removal of Network Statistics and vCards. However, there are some imperfect work-arounds. Why I love Jill Konrath's Book SNAP Selling and how LinkedIn can help you with your Sales Strategy. I was just re-reading Jill Konrath's book "SNAP Selling" and am reminded how important it is to have a snapshot of your ideal client or customer. I talk a lot about this in the second chapter of my book, "LinkedIn Marketing: An Hour a Day," but since it hasn't released yet, I thought I might mention it here too. Unless you really like cold calling and rejection, it's a really good idea to not only to do your research on your prospective clients, but also to be very clear on what kind of clien t your perspective client is. Being able to serve anyone in business, anyone with the start up, anyone with the face, anyone with a body, or anyone with health issues, is not... Read More

Hachi leads you down the right path! My friend and co-moderator of the LinkedIn chat, Steve Cassady (@SteveCassady), recently introduced me to it cool new tool called Hachi Think of it as LinkedIn Introductions on steroids. Not only will it show you the best person to make an introduction for you on LinkedIn, it will go into Twitter, Facebook and Hoover's to find the best Introducer. One of the limitations of being an open networker on LinkedIn, is that I often don't know the people that I want to get an introduction from. Or, I might know them, but I'm not as aware as I should be of their social media engagement. So if I ask for an introduction, I don't know if it's going to sit in their inbox for an hour, a day, a week or year! Hachi solves all those problems for me,... Read More
