A Good Thing or a Bad Thing? Holy Moly! This is what I woke up to this morning: Microsoft and LinkedIn Corporation on Monday announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Microsoft will acquire LinkedIn. At $196 a share That should help LinkedIns stock! (A little like Oprah investing in Weight Watchers!) Grand total? A little over 26 BILLION! (Yes, thats a B!) That works out to about $60 a user/ Not a bad CAC (Customer Acquisition Cost) if you think about it for Microsoft! And if we are talking CLV (Customer Lifetime Value) it could be a very good deal indeed! Included in the price Lynda and Slideshare. According to Microsoft, "things" should take effect by end of year.... But just what are those things? Of course, I am hoping LinkedIn reverts back to the... Read More

LinkedIn Publisher is here! LinkedIn Publishing - originally available only to LinkedIn Influencers is here (or soon will be) for the general public! I just got access today and wanted to share it with you ASAP . Here's a Short Video on how to use it: For those of you who read - here's how to do it: 1. You know you have LinkedIn Publisher when you have the little pen in your updates field. (Or you get the email telling you you now have it! 2. Create some new content- I recommend doing it in a word doc first to catch spelling errors - but don't add formatting, you can do that on LinkedIn Publisher 3. Paste into Publisher and add formatting, hyperlinks, images, bullets, etc. 4. Save it 5. PREVIEW IT (you'd be suprised the glitches that pop up!) 6. Post it... Read More

Are LinkedIn Company Page Updates Worth It? Have you heard about the latest feature available for company pages on LinkedIn? If you haven't, read on... LinkedIn recently released Sponsored Updates for company pages. These are similar to the sponsored posts on Facebook and Twitter, but are different than the Targeted Updates that LinkedIn already offers. So, what exactly are LinkedIn Sponsored Updates? LinkedIn's Sponsored Updates are paid-for updates that are shared with a specific audience. You can specify by job title, location, company, and now gender, among other parameters. Who should use LinkedIn Sponsored Updates? If you have a company page with not a lot of followers or you want to expand beyond your follower base, you can now create Sponsored Updates to reach your... Read More

LinkedIn Resources First let me state that I make huge fan of LinkedIn contacts. I highly recommend getting on the waiting list if you don't have it yet. That being said I have found 4 downsides to this new awesome feature. The first is that the only alphabetical listing is by first name only. Where is the old contacts screen listed people by last name which makes more sense to me. I am sure that this will soon be rectified. Since this came from the connected CRM system that alphabetically lists people by first name, I think it's just an oversight. I hope. The second one is a little bit more concerning. Again I think it's just an oversight or a glitch in the system from connected and CardMunch. You used to be able to tag your connections which you still can but you... Read More

Did you know LinkedIn had a help forum? I was chatting with my new LinkedIn friend Huub Ritzema about LinkedIn's help feature, and he reminded me about their "new" Help forum. Just in case you haven't checked it out yet, it's worth the gander. If you click on "Help Center" at the very very bottom of your profile on the left-hand side, it will take you to LinkedIn's Help Center. (The Help Center is also featured in the new UI). Once you're in the Help Center you can click on Help Forum. From this help forum, you can search questions that have already been asked and answered, or even start your own discussion. So this is nothing like LinkedIn Answers where you could ask questions about anything business related. But at least you can ask questions to the forum... Read More

LinkedIn's Latest User Interface Changes Well, LinkedIn's done it again. Made a whole bunch of changes to its user interface. To be fair - most of the changes are on the menu bar. But they are big changes! I have a video below that walks you through step-by-step. It was done on the fly and with my client's profile (and permission), but it'll tell you what you need to know if you to have the new user interface on LinkedIn. Video of LinkedIn's New Changes Homepage Tab The homepage is pretty much the same. Except now instead of the full LinkedIn logo, it's just the blue LinkedIn logo. But it takes you to the same place. Profile Tab Under 'Profile' you'll notice we've lost the drop down box. Meaning you have to edit and view your profile from the... Read More

Some of LinkedIn's "Newer" Offers When you say “Social Media” people think of Facebook, Twitter and Google+. LinkedIn does not always spring to the top of mind. I suspect this is because LinkedIn, despite its numerous changes, is still considered to be a Rolodex on steroids for jobseekers and recruiters, rather than an active, vibrant social network and marketing tool. If you haven’t visited LinkedIn lately, you might want to drop back in. 1. LinkedIn has improved its “Contacts” section. Unlike Facebook (that has a unintuitive “friends” section and complicated “List” and messaging system,) and Twitter (that is even less intuitive “List” app,) LinkedIn has a very intuitive system that allows you not only to “Tag” (sort) your...
