10 Ways to Use LinkedIn as a Speaker 1. Who are you? Sure you are a speaker, but you need to be clear about what you speak about and who your audience is. I’m sure you already know just what you have to offer – but make sure that your LinkedIn Profile reflects that too! Very quickly jot down what you are known for, who you speak to. Now look at your profile. Would someone reading it know that? 2. Micro Elevator Speech Do you have a book, or a keynote you are known for? Add them to your Professional Headline section. You have 120 characters to work with. Think of it as a micro-elevator speech. Mine reads: Author of Wiley’s “LinkedIn Marketing: Hour a Day” ★Forbes Top 10 Most Influential Women★ International Keynote Speaker... Read More

Getting the Most out of LinkedIn I was recently asked to write an article on my book, " LinkedIn Marketing: An Hour a Day" so I decided to sharesome of my top tips from it, chapter by chapter. You don't have to buy the book to benefit from it, although of course I recommend you do! Here is an Interview I did with Donna Gilliland about it: http://youtu.be/HZcOjQchXp8 My Top Ten LinkedIn Tips Chapter 1: “Get LinkedIn” What is LinkedIn and should you be on it? If you don't have one yet, get a profile on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is not just for jobseekers. You Can Still Add Individual Email Addresses and CSV files on LinkedIn If you actually took the weekend off, congratulations. If you didn't, you might've seen that LinkedIn changed how you Add Connections well, at least the look of it! Add Connections The green Add Connections link is still the same on the top right-hand side of the page, but that's where everything changes. Or at least has the appearance of changing! Adding Email Contacts for Email Services It's a cleaner screen, and I like that it's pretty explanatory how to add Gmail, EarthLink, Unique Domains, Yahoo or Hotmail addresses. Adding Email Contacts from your own Domain I especially like that it is now much easier to add your own unique domain email address ([email protected]) since... Read More

LinkedIn Makes Some Good Changes to their New Profile User Interface New LinkedIn Profile UI Its funny – when LinkedIn released its new UI (black menu bar and not much else) I was rather disappointed. And other than the timing on the new Profile UI (My book literally went into print the day before it was released) I am liking the new changes. Since I don’t have access to it yet, my friend and client Skip Bryan said I could use his profile! Thanks Skip. If you do better watching a video rather than reading- check out the video tour I did of Skip’s profile showing you the difference. So - LinkedIn released its new profile user interface update on the 18th. I think it looks great! What I like: Cleaner look Easier to... Read More

Cloze: The "Who, What, When Where" for Every Connection That Matters If you are a regular of my #LinkedInChat (Tuesday nights at 8 PM EST) or my blog, then you know that I am always looking for ways to make LinkedIn more effective for its members. LinkedIn is a great tool, with some obvious deficit, (primarily the limitations for people who have small networks and the free account.) I like tools that help people manage and optimize their account and network no matter what size it is. Cloze.com is one of those tools. Cloze (found at http://cloze.com ) is a free service that brings together your email, business connections, social networks, and address books into a single useful viewer. How to Turn Your URL LinkedIn Experience into a IRL (in real life) F2F meeting I love social networking – but the truth is, most of my business comes when I meet someone face-to-face (f2f) or they see me speak. This is especially true of big networks like mine – but I also find this strategy useful for smaller strategic networks as well. I don’t know about you, but I simply don’t have the brain capacity to remember my entire network, much less where they live. I just... Read More
