Guest Post: Brandwatch It is easy to see the use-case for social listening when looking at large consumer brands They have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of buyers and millions more of potential ones. They have high volumes of online conversation about them, a dedicated social media team to keep an eye on it, and lots of data to find insights. But what about those B2B companies that sell their services to other businesses? What about companies that, though hugely successful and large, dont get talked about much online, and perhaps have a lower number of customers? When these companies enter the social listening space, they are faced with many different challenges . The biggest is learning how to quantify the available information on the social web and... Guest Post: Brandwatch Social listening, social analytics and social intelligence. Its all the same, right? Well not quite. We were asked this very question on Twitter, so we thought it worth writing an explanation for all to read. Firstly, no, technically, the terms dont mean the same thing. However, they are often used interchangeably to discuss activities related to social media monitoring (thats what we do!) Even more confusingly, whilst they are often used to mean the same thing, they are also used differently by different people and companies within the industry. Heres an explanation of the differences, and how each term is frequently used. Social Listening Lets start with social listening. Social listening or more accurately social media... Read More

Its important to remember that your LinkedIn profile is one of the most important pieces of your online business presence and branding - so you need to make sure that your profile's branding is aligned with your website, social media and other digital platforms. Visuals Professional Headline You have a great opportunity to create a branded image on your personal profile and on your Company page with LinkedIn'sbackground image. The Personal Profile background image is 1400 x 425 pixels and your Company Page Background image is 660 x 220. Unfortunately, you can't use the same image for both - although they can (and should) resemble each other. The Profile's image is more of an inverse U shape andthe Company page is a rectangle. Like this: Personal Profile Upload a... Read More

How to REALLY create Business on LinkedIn When is comes to doing B2B business on LinkedIn, the question I get asked the most is; How can I use LinkedIn more effectively? Especially new users who have some experience with social (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) but have been resistant to LinkedIn because it just doesnt make sense. People see a new platform (at least new to them) and think that they are in store for a giant learning curve. But the truth is, LinkedIn is just a tool that allows you to do what you already do in business just more effectively. Yes, you need to learn how to use the platform, but you dont have to create a whole new series of business strategies as well. LinkedIn's mission statement is: To connect the world's professionals to make them more... Read More

Guest Post: Brandwatch When it comes to selling shoes, marketing to Pinterest 70 million members is a no-brainer. But when it comes to selling specialized services to businesses, the value of social media monitoring can be dim to even the most experienced agency consultants and B2B decision makers. What are the best social media monitoring platforms (SMM) out there? Are therebudget-friendly or free options? What are the benefits of developing social media listening capabilities? And how do I know its worth my money? We hear similar questions from agency professionals and marketers every day. Obviously, the immense availability ofhundreds of SMM platformscan be confusing sometimes. Some are available for free or work on a freemium model;... Read More

You go to the office or to work and consider yourself to be a business person. Whatever your current occupation is gives you an additional company title. What tends to be forgotten about is that you are a human being. You have a life outside of the office and work. Yet you choose to live a majority of your productive hours each week working. When working, your goal is to do a good job even more than just a good job. Always, to be successful at what you do. Yet because you are human, youre also to some degree or another a creature of habit. All of us are. For example, you get up in the morning at a certain time every work day and do the same things to prepare to go off to work. You arrive at work and behave in similar ways each business day. In the process of these daily... Read More

LinkedIn has a new Video Feature How cool is that? Well maybe not as cool as we thought. But let me back up I spent last week hanging out with my friend Sue B. Zimmerman , (otherwise known as The Instagram Expert .) That's when Instagram stories came out. Well what do you know! At the same time LinkedIn comes out with a video feature . How cool is that? It's LinkedIn, so . New Influencer QA Video Feature I thought, "Oh this is awesome, there's going to be some kind of live chat feature, maybe they're going to infuse Skype-like capabilities into LinkedIn. Worst case scenario there will be some designated video page and we can all start uploading videos now." Not so much. LinkedIn's big offer? Thirty second videos, coming to you from the 500 exclusive... Read More

Recently, Hilda (one of my tribe) asked, "How do you save a search exactly?" I realized I didn't have a very good description anywhere on YouTube or on my blog. However, before we talk about how to save a search, let's talk about why you want to save a search. The reason why is because when you save a search on LinkedIn, LinkedIn will actually send you a weekly, updated list of new people who fall into that particular search algorithm. If you are searching for prospects, LinkedIns Saves Search will send you leads. Whether you're looking for donors for your non-profit, or you're looking for candidates for your business, or you're looking for new clients because you're a consultant or a contractor, you work in sales and marketing, or you're looking for... I'm always getting asked that question! And the answer is.. it depends! True Story: LinkedIn really pissed me off back in November (happy to tell you the whole story privately sometime.) I decided to "show them" and I canceled my Premium account. Because my $60 investment was really going to make or break LinkedIn :) I lasted about 2 weeks on free until I had to upgrade again. But that's me. Obviously, I use LinkedIn a lot. But how about you? Should you upgrade? What I tell my clients is, "Use LinkedIn's free offer until you hit the wall." When you can't do what you want to do on LinkedIn, invest in an upgrade. (Personally, I prefer Business Plus over Sales Nav.) If you have been wondering if LinkedIn Premium is for you, read the article below that I wrote for the... Read More

Theres no doubt about it: We live in a fast paced, ever changing world. That brings with it demands on our daily business lives and for many of us, a lot of stress. Are you stressed? If so: What are you stressed about? In order to resolve the business stress, you need to: Identify exactly what is creating or causing the stress. For example: Is it because youre not getting enough of your work done? Is it because you dont have enough incoming work to do? Is it because of a co-worker you work with? Is it because of a client you work with? Do you have a computer or other office equipment that doesnt work right and needs replaced? Do you need a different work space to improve your work flow? Is it because of something else that needs addressed... Read More
